In this piece we see runaway brush strokes heading everywhere and nowhere all at once, leading our eyes along a winding waterfall of pink. Mazes are met with fluttering confetti butterflies, changing colors every time we look at them. Reminiscent of Kandinsky’s Compositions, with an emphasis on innocence… Laurent paints with the imaginative freedom of a child discovering canvas for the first time, creating colors that didn’t yet exist, love flowing from heart to mind to fingertips.
In Dance of the Butterflies we are invited back to our childhood, where clouds glowed with magenta hues and we floated in the sky among them instead of walking on the ground.
It is whimsical, magical, ice cream dripping down your wrist on a hot summer day
It is laying on the grass and getting so lost in the swirl of the sky that you forget anything’s wrong
Dance of the Butterflies awakens the inner child within all of us and speaks to the possibility of finding him again. Why did we ever grow up? When did we stop noticing the butterflies? Maybe the next time one flutters across our path we will be still for a moment. Maybe that’s all that matters.
